Our Profile

Dunia Oil and Technical Services is oil and gas Service Company duly incorporated in July 1991 in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and properly registered with the department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to do business within the Nigerian oil industry. It commenced business on 1st of January 1992. Dunia Oil is a corporate member of Nigerian Association Petroleum Geologists (NAPE).

The objectives of Dunia oil and Technical services is to formalize new joint ventures with willing technical partners in geological, geo-technical, engineering, and maintenance services in the Oil and Gas sector of Nigeria. Dunia Oil operation and industry activities have been greatly enhanced in recent times due to new government program encouraging “local participation”. Dunia Oil has the knowledge of the local politics and existing fiscal regulations at the Federal, State and Local Government levels. Partnership with Dunia Oil and Technical Services will provide a smooth and easy access into the operating companies. This partnership will provide a very competitive advantage for winning projects from the vast potential that exists as well as expand the horizon of the business of our partners and ourselves.

Nigeria has vast under-exploited and cheap resources. Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, a member and fifth largest producer of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is expected to remain a significant oil producer and intends to increase her present OPEC quota in a world of increasing oil demand. Nigeria’s economy is heavily dependent on hydrocarbons extraction, which accounts for 90-95% of export revenues, over 90% of foreign exchange earnings and nearly 80% of government revenues.

Nigeria aspires to increase her crude oil productivity level from the current 2.2 million barrels per day to 4.5 million barrels per day by the year 2010. The output came from seventeen producing companies operating on 254 fields. To support this level of oil production, the country’s oil reserve is expected to be increased to forty (40) billion barrels in 2010, but the government is planning to achieve a target of 4 million barrel per day by 2007.

The Journey of Dunia Oil and Technical Services so Far.

Dunia Oil and Technical Services was situated at Cottage 42, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos from 1991-1999. At early beginning, the company attracted the support of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the corporation of the multinationals as a result of those who pioneered the endeavour to establish indigenous oil Service Company.

Though the Headquarters was in Lagos, Dunia Oil and Technical Services had offices in London, Houston, Warri as well as Port Harcourt. Between 1992 and 1997, Dunia Oil and Technical Services had contract with Chevron to supply explosives for seismic activities at Escarvos. Therefore, the company had magazine sites and all the necessary safety required were fulfilled.

- Dunia Oil and Technical Services also won a contract with Chevron on Engineering Design of one of its major platform in 1993. But our technical partners from New Orleans disappointed by deciding not to come to Nigeria but went to Indonesia due to political instability of Nigeria. And so, Dunia Oil loss not only all the pre-operational funds it has put, it also loss all the opportunity to translate its dream of training and development the Nine Engineers it had employed in its fold.

- Dunia Oil had at this period acquired huge expanse land in Warri from the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) with the view to establish a construction yard for its operations.

Dunia Oil and Technical Services was also registered with AGIP, SHELL, MOBIL and TEXACO and the company bidded for a variety of jobs especially in Front End Engineering and supply of drilling fluids.

As required by law, Dunia Oil and Technical Services was duly registered with the Department of Petroleum Resources under the following headings:

  • Production and Pipeline Services – Oil Field Facilities Maintenance
  • Consultancy Services – Petroleum Engineering
  • Drilling Services – Drilling Mud Chemicals and Materials Supply
  • Equipment Supply Services
  • Construction Services – Metal Fabrication, Offshore Production and Export
    Facility Construction and Installation
  • Exploration Services – Exploration Data Gathering and Acquisition

In 1995, Dunia Oil and Technical Services apply for a Deep Offshore Block and were granted Blocks OPL 214 and OPL 236 but this allocation was subsequently withdrawn due to some legal technicalities and political considerations.

These Abacha government years became more frustrating for upcoming indigenous companies such as Dunia Oil. We were compelled to stop all activities until now when Nigeria attained democratic dispensation. The encouragement of local content participation for indigenous Nigeria Oil companies by the present democratic government and the policies of transparency and accountability which we believe will endear the oil and gas sector - Nigeria has encouraged Dunia Oil to rise up to the challenge to take its rightful place.

It is in light of the present situation that Dunia Oil and Technical Services has re-awakened to the current challenges, which the democratic government has put in place through its local content policy.
